Sump Pump Installation & Battery Backups

Quick answer

A sump pump sits in a basin at the low point of a crawl space, basement or exterior drain and pumps collected water away from your home automatically. Wetlock installs 3/4 HP sump pumps, with optional battery backups designed to keep the system running during a power outage.

Sump pump services

  • 3/4 HP sump pumps for crawl spaces, basements and exterior drains.
  • Battery backups, an optional upgrade to help keep water moving during power outages.
  • Replacement of failing, undersized or noisy pumps.
  • Discharge routing so water exits well away from the foundation.

How a sump system works

A drain system carries water to a sump basin set at the low point. When the water rises, a float switch turns the pump on. The pump pushes the water through a discharge line to an outlet away from the foundation, then shuts off when the basin is empty.

Part of a complete system

A sump pump works with a drain system. Inside, it pairs with an interior French drain in a crawl space or the drain system in a basement. Outside, it can move water from an exterior drain when there is no downhill outlet.

Why sump pumps fail

The most common failures are stuck floats, clogged intakes, worn-out motors and power outages. A pump that dumps water right next to the house can also send the same water back into the foundation. We look at the whole system, not just the pump.

Testing and maintenance

Test your pump a few times a year by pouring water into the basin and confirming it starts, empties the basin and shuts off. Keep the discharge outlet clear of leaves and soil, and listen for new noises. If you have a battery backup, check its status indicator regularly.

Signs you may need sump pumps & battery backups

  • An old pump that runs constantly or not at all
  • No backup for power outages
  • Discharge line dumping next to the house
  • Basin full of silt or debris
  • Rattling, humming or burning smells

Sump Pumps & Battery Backups FAQ

Where can you install a sump pump?

We install 3/4 HP sump pumps in crawl spaces, basements and exterior drain systems.

Do I need a battery backup?

If your power goes out during a storm, your main pump stops when you need it most. A battery backup keeps water moving until power comes back.

How long does a sump pump last?

It depends on how often it runs and the conditions it works in. We check the pump, float and discharge line during every inspection.
